Welcome to the website of the Coleraine Historical Society

logodrawn.jpgThe logo of the Society is a stylised representation of the Bann Disc. The Bann Disc, shown right, is a bronze disc about four inches in diameter found during dredging operations in the river Bann in 1939. It was found near the Loughan Island, approximately two miles south of Coleraine, and is now in the Ulster Museum, Belfast. Dr. Warner of the Ulster Museum states that the decorations on the disc are “all features of an Irish version of “Celtic” art. It is one of the finest examples of this style anywhere in the British Isles”.

We hope that the unique quality of the original disc is reflected in our journal - “The Bann Disc”.
